Boatfest pic

Commodore’s Corner by Ken McKenzie.

Hooray Hooray it’s the fifth of May and boating season officially begins today!

I was out sailing with Footloose Sailing on the fifth.  Were you out on your boat?  You should have been, as it was beautiful out for boating.  It was a very enjoyable day and I got my first sunburn of the year.  Yeah!

Ben Lobaugh still has his boat engine in the back of his car and, besides, he was out sailing with Footloose also.  Hopefully he can get his engine back in for the season.  Now is a good time to finish those projects you need to get done before you actually get your boat in motion.

There are lots of things planned for the months of May and June.  Check your emails for evites and notices from Patricia, our cruise chair. Ben Lobaugh and I will be manning a booth at Shilshole Bay on June 9 for “Boatfest.”  We’ll being doing our best to promote our club membership to all who come near our booth.  We have about 500 printed tri-fold brochures to hand out. There should be some left over if you would like a couple to hand out to friends. This next week’s dinner meeting will be the last one until September so come one and all, please.  Hope to see all of you there.  Sure Marine will be giving the presentation for this meeting.  Don’t miss it!  Until September…Happy Boating!

Board Members – Nominating Committee by Rubie Johnson, Director at Large.

Nominating Committee for 2019 Officers

Beginning this year, the Nominating Committee for next year’s club officers will be formed in May.  Traditionally, one member of the Board of Directors is appointed to serve on the committee, and two additional members are appointed from the general membership.  Director at Large, Rubie Johnson, was appointed to the Nominating Committee at the May 1, 2018 Board Meeting.

If you are interested in serving on the nominating committee please contact Rubie.

Job descriptions of all five elected officers and seven appointed positions are found on pages 30-31 of your By Laws at the back of the 2018 Membership Roster.

Elections are held at the meeting in November, and the new board is installed at the December Holiday dinner. Board meetings are held on the first Tuesday evening of every month except June, July and August.

Contact Rubie Johnson, Director at Large, with any questions about volunteering to serve your club on our fun board, the nominating committee, or in other capacities on cruises or on the sailboat race committee.

Quartermaster Report by Nancy Merson.

I have resigned from the office of Quartermaster effective on the first of May.  I will be replaced by Barbara Mallory who has been approved and appointed to the position and will do an excellent job.  My main objective in the past five years has been to get a “Zazzle” account going that would benefit our club and not anyone else.  I felt that we would be most successful if we had a copyright on our burgee and had a way to prevent anyone else from using it.  The copyright is in the process of being completed and we can, hopefully, get the other two sites that are using it to be closed.  If they decide to remain open, their items cannot display our logo on them.  When our new site is operable, you will be notified and have a direct link to the site to do your ordering of individual items.
