Well, here we are: it’s September and we have cancelled all of our cruises for the year and haven’t held a dinner meeting since February. I miss seeing all your smiling faces at cruises and gatherings. Even though we haven’t had cruises I hope you have managed to get out some on your boat this summer, as I found it to be a nice slice of “normal.”
As we move into fall it looks like we will not be holding any dinner meetings for the remainder of the year. If you take a look at the the Phases for Reopening for Washington State you will notice it’s not until Phase 4 that gatherings of more than 10 people are allowed. At this point I think it is highly unlikely that we will be there before the close of 2020. It’s also likely we will need to figure out a way to hold a virtual vote for the upcoming Board elections for next year.
In addition, I think it would be worth trying a short presentation at a Zoom Happy Hour this fall and see how that goes. I’ll be working with the Board to see how best that can be done.
I hope you all saw my recent email about the effort to turn Lakebay Marina into a State Park, that went out about a month ago. So far we have raised $350. I’m hoping more of you have donated and just haven’t notified me yet. The deadline is fast approaching on September 10. See the other article in this RudderPost for details on how to go about donating.
Until next month: the weather is still fine and I hope you find some time to get out for a night or two on your boat. I’m looking forward to a somewhat return to normal when we can have gatherings again. Until then, stay well!

A Call to Action!
There is an effort underway to save Lakebay Marina from development and make it into a state park. This action is being led by RBAW (Recreational Boating Association of Washington) and is a good opportunity for SBYC to give to the boating community.
I feel that too much of Puget Sound is already under private ownership. It would be great to support this cause and see Lakebay saved for public access. I don’t know if you have read the sign at Sucia Island about its history and how it came to be a state park. This kind of advocacy is how it happened.
RBAW must raise the necessary funds by September 10 to acquire the property, so please consider contributing (link below) and notify me what you have donated, if you do. I will compile a list to be published in the October RudderPost acknowledging those who have donated, and a total of the donations made by SBYC (not individual donations). This same list will be provided to RBAW acknowledging SBYC’s contributions to this cause.
Several club members have already donated a total of $300 so far. Please Join us!
Donations can be made here:

Forward your donation receipt to me (via email) and I will take care of compiling a list for both RBAW and our RudderPost. If you would like your donation to be anonymous please let me know and I will honor that request.
Thanks for your support!
