Thank you for your confidence in me as your Commodore in 2021. It has been an honor to serve this club and work with an excellent Board.
Joe Bozick invited me to the July 3rd cruise over six years ago and I have fond memories of the warmth and welcome of the members on that raft up: touring boats, drinking way too much beer, and watching fireworks from Slow Dance’s fly-bridge. I knew this club was going to become a family for Alix and me.
Through the years we have been blessed over and over by the friendships and knowledge within the club. Cruises have been highlights of our years, and we eagerly look forward to filling our calendar with events each year.
This year was another strange one, as our state opened, then closed as Covid has burned through. I am proud of the Board and the hard work they did to get cruises running again, safely, and for each member who came to events and diligently cared for the other members of the club.
I do not know what 2022 is going to bring, but I am encouraged and hopeful that the club will continue to find ways to safely hold events and grow. The Board for 2022 is comprised of a group of diligent and dedicated individuals, headed by David Horn as the new Commodore.
What I know for sure is 2022 holds an amazing new adventure for Alix, Clara, and me, as we welcome a new sailor to our family. We cannot wait to take him on cruising adventures and introduce the family!
Christmas is upon us!
This year, the club will be doing a Christmas Party via Zoom. Details will be forthcoming, but be sure to show up wearing your favorite Christmas outfit!
We will be wrapping up the year by looking back at adventures of the year and installing the 2022 Board.
Watch your email for further details and the Zoom link!
See you there :
p.s: The boat pictured above is not a club boat. M/V New Adventure is, however, at the same marina as several club members, and we are working on the owners to join us :).
Here is the updated SBYC Cruise Calendar for 2022. Please note that the Bell Harbor cruise has moved up one week from the previously planned date due to a conflict with another yacht club.
FEB 18-19 Winter Fest, Bell Harbor Marina
APR 16 Yellow Fest, Blake Island
MAY 13-14 Burger Burn, Port Ludlow
JUN 11 June Dinner Dance, Kingston
JUL 03 Fireworks Raft Up, Liberty Bay
AUG 03 Summer Rendezvous, South Sound (TBD)
SEP 03 Labor Day Weekend, Port Orchard
OCT 01 Salmon Bake, Poulsbo
Our first cruise of the new year is the Winter Fest rendezvous in downtown Seattle at the Bell Harbor Marina February 19. We have ten slips reserved (essentially all of C dock) Friday and Saturday nights (Feb 18 and 19). Call the marina ASAP, tell them you are with SBYC, and get your slip reserved for this event. If your boat is based in Shilshole Bay Marina, you get $10 off your stay. I hope to see many of you there in February where we can explore downtown Seattle and hit a restaurant together, or a pub. This cruise is an easy one to drive to as well to meet up for dinner and/or drinks.
Contact me if you want to sponsor a cruise event in 2022 to help coordinate it. Roger and Julie have offered to sponsor one of the events later in the year. Grab your event and put your name on it!
The December Snowbird race had to be canceled due to extreme weather conditions.
The Coast Guard issued a Gale Warning lasting through the weekend. The buoy at West Point was reporting winds of 35 knots, with gusts upwards of 50!
Looking forward to January and the hope of ideal conditions!
Welcome to the 2022 Board!
