It has been a loooooooong time since we have gathered as a club. This weekend’s Burger Burn in Liberty Bay will be our first club cruise since the lockdown started over a year ago and I am super excited about it!
The timing is fantastic as Alix and I purchased a new boat a few weeks ago. This will be the shakedown cruise. As you can see from the photo, Clara is super excited about being a boater! This will be her first overnight trip on the boat as well.
The board has worked hard this year to pull together a set of cruises that will meet [current] regulations. Be sure to checkout Dave’s updated cruising calendar below. Cruises will look a little different until the government gives the all clear, and lifts mandates, but this is still a great opportunity for everyone to get together.
There are a couple of cruises still TBD, but I hope to see you all at the rest.
Now I have to go remember how to do this boating thing. What does a Genoa sheet do again?…
See you in Liberty Bay!
Watch for an email from the Vice Commodore for this month’s Dinner Meeting details.
Summer is almost upon us with lots of cruising to be done. I’ll be sending eVites out to all club members for each of the club cruises so we can know who to look for at the events.
Our first in-person cruise event of the year is the “Burn Your Own Burger” Burn on May 15 in Liberty Bay. We will anchor out in Liberty Bay at coordinates N 47 43.48, W 122 38.96. The guidelines for this event are for each boat to anchor individually near each other, not in a big raft-up. Bring your dinghy if you want to paddle or motor about and visit the anchored boats to mingle with other club members at a safe, yet audible, distance.
The June Dinner Dance has been moved out and will be combined with the Salmon Bake to become the September Salmon Dance on September 25. I will be looking at Brownsville, Kingston, or some other large enough space for this event for salmon dinner, a live band, and dancing. Please contact me if you can help plan and run this SBYC cruise with me and if you have any of the decorations and supplies from the 2019 June Dinner Dance.
In place of the June Dinner Dance, we still have our ten slip reservations in Brownsville to meet at the marina for a June Dock Soiree on June 11 and 12. Be sure to bring your own food and drink for this on-the-dock meetup. Contact Brownsville Marina ASAP and tell them you are with SBYC to get one of the ten reserved slips.
The other summer cruises are the Fireworks Raft Up at Poulsbo on July 3 (whether Poulsbo has fireworks this year or not), the Summer Rendezvous at Mystery Bay on July 21, and the Labor Day Weekend at Port Orchard on September 4. I am still looking for someone to step up and “adopt” the Labor Day cruise to coordinate it.

Hello, Fellow SBYC members,
Katie here with an update to the reciprocal yacht club list. We have added Deer Harbor Yacht Club as a reciprocal club. They are on the yacht destination website and can be found here, too.
We also lost reciprocal benefits with the Schooner Yacht Club in Nanoose, BC.
Before you head out on any adventure, be sure you check on the Yacht Destinations website to see current information with each individual club. Many are starting to open up again, but there are still quite a few that are not open for visiting boats.
Hope to see you out on the water soon. Jason and I will be in Poulsbo at the May meet up.
Katie Breitling.
SBYC is still looking for a Treasurer to step into the empty position. This is a position that must be filled in order for the club to continue.
If the position sounds daunting, fret not! LB has done a fantastic job of making it easy to be treasurer. LB will be available through the end of the year to train the next Treasurer.
Please, please, consider stepping into this role. It has minimal demands and is critical to the future of the club!
There may even be a treasure chest you get to hide in your backyard ;).
